Come root yourself.

A sanctuary in the jungle of Costa Rica

The Essence

Taru means tree, in Sanskrit.

A tree does not perform growth — it simply grows. It sends roots into darkness to reach toward light, and shelters without asking. Taru is a place where transformation is not sold, but allowed to happen — where the jungle slows you down enough to hear yourself again.

Come root yourself. Leave in bloom.

The Experience

Everything you need, nothing you don't.

Architecture that settles your nervous system

Biophilic design and handcrafted detail, built into the canopy. The space does its work before you understand why — quieting the body, opening the breath, dissolving the urgency you arrived with.

A complete sanctuary, held by the jungle

Infinity pool at golden hour, gym, sauna and cold plunge, yoga deck, and trails into living forest. A full environment for body, mind, and spirit — and nothing that pulls you back out of it.

  • Yoga & MovementDaily practice on an open-air deck above the canopy.
  • Sauna & Cold PlungeHeat, cold, and the confrontation that resets you.
  • Healing & CeremonyEnergy work, massage, and held space for what surfaces.
  • Jungle AdventuresGuided walks, waterfalls, and the wild edge of Montezuma.

In Their Words

Guests leave closer to themselves.

If I could give Taru more than five stars, I would not hesitate a second. The views from our suite were spectacular. We could sit outside for hours and listen to the forest. The 25-meter pool, pool table and ping-pong table — we played every day. The flowers and trees are beyond expectation. Thank you for creating such an oasis.

Unit 3 has an amazing deck and sunrise view. Listening to the howler monkeys and enjoying the vista was spectacular. The windows and doors bring the outside in — modern, with beautiful woods. The pool was a great way to cool off, with a nice shaded area to relax in. I loved the gym. Easy access to many adventures. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This is our second time at Taru and we'll probably be back. Very private and beautiful views. Quaint, clean, comfortable, and has all that you need. The new infinity pool was breathtaking. We're sad to go home — we had the best time. I'm going to miss my vacation dogs, but we'll be back.

The pictures do not do Taru justice. From the pool, to the beautiful villa, to the brand new gym — this was a dream. The hosts were responsive and everything we needed was within reach. We will be back!

The location was amazing — immersed in the jungle. Really nice amenities like a pool, deck, and gym. The hosts were very nice and helpful. They gave us suggestions, assisted with luggage storage after checkout, and helped book us a surf tour for our next location. Definitely recommend!

Amazing original surroundings in the jungle, but a clean, peaceful environment inside the accommodation. Incredibly helpful staff and very flexible. Lovely pool area for relaxation, and the gym too. A fab experience!

Good to Know

Before you arrive.

What about rainy season?

We call it the green season — the most intimate, most lush, most alive version of Taru. Fewer people, deeper experience, the jungle at full power. The rain on the canopy becomes part of the practice, not an interruption.

How do I get to Montezuma?

Fly into San José or Liberia, then a short domestic flight or scenic drive and ferry to the Nicoya Peninsula. We send a full travel guide on booking and can arrange airport transfer.

Is this for me if I've never done a retreat?

Yes. Taru is a sanctuary, not a program you have to keep up with. The daily rhythm is an invitation, never an obligation — go as deep as you choose.

What's included in the price?

Your accommodation, all meals, daily movement and sanctuary access (sauna, cold plunge, pool, yoga deck), and the curated experiences of your chosen journey. Add-ons like private ceremony or transfers are optional.

Can I come alone?

Many of our guests do. Solo travelers find Taru both safe and quietly social — shared meals and practice when you want connection, total solitude when you don't.

What's your cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 30 days before arrival. Your deposit is refundable within 14 days of booking. Full terms are shown at checkout.
